BEST IOS & ANDROID APPS FOR EDITING YOUR PHOTOS

Thanks to the vast improvements made to smartphone cameras, mobile photo editing is more popular than ever. Everyone wants to add those little tweaks to make their photos really pop and there are a metric ton of apps that can do just that. Searching for photo editor apps in the Google Play Store and Apple App store will return enough results to make your head spin so I’ve put together a list of the best photo editor apps for both platforms.

1. VSCOCAM

Isn't just a photo-editing app -- like Instagram, it's also a kind of social network. VSCO Cam has more of a minimalist vibe, which means that, like Instagram, its actual editing capabilities are a tad limited. It offers sliding adjustments for brightness, contrast, clarity, sharpness, saturation, highlights, shadows, temperature and skin tone, as well as options to tint your photo different colors or add grain or vignette effects. VSCO Cam comes with several free filters and also offers filter packs for purchase in its shop.

2. SNAPSEED

Google's photo-editing app Snapseed (Android, iOS) is one of the best photo-editing apps around, thanks to the incredible control it gives you over your pictures. It has nine editing tools for tweaking your photos, including a brush tool that lets you selectively adjust exposure, saturation and color temperature; and a healing tool that lets you remove blemishes or erase objects from photos completely. Snapseed also has its own set of filters (sorted into 11 different categories, including Retrolux, Noir and Glamour Glow). Unlike Instagram, Snapseed lets you fine-tune filter effects by modifying attributes like brightness, saturation and texture strength. Most of all its free.

3. HYPOCAM

Hypocam is a great app for black and white photography. From the moment you fire it up, all the way down through to navigating its sleek UI and editing menus, it simply shows dedication. At first glance, Hypocam may seem a bit limited, but actually features some interesting tools to tinker with your photos before and after taking them. For example, you can use a plethora of different presets that will make certain colors pop — as in, be darker or lighter shades of gray — in your shots, which really changes things up. This allows you to accentuate different parts of your photos, and can make them look much, much different from straightforward B&W conversions.

Further, Hypocam features its own feed-style art board, where you can find themed photo collections from different authors to draw inspiration from. There is also an in-app storefront, which features many compilations of effects and presets, tailored for different types of photography.

You can also come back and edit your shots at a later time, which may be considered an advantage.
